I have noticed here and on other forums people talking about non target catches. I think even though usually the animals are released unharmed no good can come from even mentioning these catches on a public forum. We need to all keep this in mind. Mods please delete this thread when you see fit. Thanks, Aaron

Aaron, very good post. That is the reason I have weeded out posts, and deleted whole threads as of lately due to these non targets being mentioned. There is no need to mention them. We all know things happen in the field, but some of these things do not need to be mentioned on a public forum. I noticed that Paul is having the same thing happen on Trapperman. Basically we just need to think before we post.

I think that we should have a clear "Mission Statement" regarding incidental catches in general at the top of the site, and that posts containing references to incidentals will be deleted.
Furthermore, this should also include a very strong stance from the NCTA on ethical trapping practices including set locations, trap restrictions and the safe and humane release of all incidental catches.

Coldsteel, Bobcat, and all-- Yes, it's an inevitability, and one thing I've learned in my line of work is that hiding, rather than trying to elicit help to solve problems, brings far more attention than having things in the open. Better to have a positive outcome to a problem in the open than hide an inevitable accident. That being said, since I have been responsible for at least one of those posts, please accept my apologies. Won't happen again.

I can't help but agree somewhat with wildman. Better to control the conversation than leave it to those who oppose us. Who knows better than a live market trapper that canines from the size of fox to coyotes are caught regularly without suffering anything more than possibly a sore foot. The same applies to non-targets and it's important for those who have no strong opinion of trapping to know that.
For an anti no picture of trapped animals, daily catches or season catches is acceptable or is any discussion of trapping yet catch numbers is something I see often on forums.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting that people post pictures of non-targets but the general public needs to know that the tools we employ are neither inhumane nor do they cause the physical trauma the anti's would have them believe.

Problem is that antis are watching. They love to use our own words and pictures against us. Caution is a must. Its a lot like giving an enemy bullets to shoot at you with.

Whether you post pics or not, people get a visual image of the words that are printed.
