I was wondering if anyone could help me find some Points of Contact for the raccoon meat market in my region. Specifically, the following Region 2 counties;
Onslow, Pender, Duplin, Lenoir, Jones, Craven, and Carteret.
Thanks for your time. Please send me an e-mail at rlively@ec.rr.com with any names & telephone numbers you could provide. Again, thanks for your time.

Rob, the meat market is there if you are willing to put in the leg work. I contacted a number of fish markets in the area and none were interested. However there are a lot of middle aged to older black people in the area that are very appreciative to have the opportunity to buy coon meat. I have been able to sell just about all of mine over the last few years at $5-10 apiece simply by asking around. I find somebody who between them and there friends want to buy a couple coolers full and I run them by. Like I said, it's a bit of leg work.
If you are starting off with no contacts a good place might be to go down to the pier at the beach one night and asked around. Also maybe go ask around a colored barber shop. Usually somebody who wants to buy a couple will have a half dozen or more friends that also want to buy some.

Passthru is right... find the older folks and talk around a bit.. ask around for who hunts coon.. that'll lead you to who eats them.

I'm putting the word out in country stores. Many have a community bulletin board -- I just use word of mouth, but put my number up at one or two select places. I already have a couple customers lined up, if I can get the danged critters to cooperate. This time last year, I had a truck full. I think the rabies has wiped our herd.

Freezing temps haven't helped. I set a half dozen 220 bucket/cubbies on the islands in the waterway over Christmas. First 2 nights it froze, next 2 it rained. Pulled them the 5th day. Did miss what we think was a mink twice.

I've had one set of tracks in the past several days. Big fellow, at least. He was curious about a yote set, but not curious enough to commit. Also have a Griz out -- critter fished some bait out, but there's enough left in there to keep it interesting. BTW, charles -- how're the nutrias out your way?

I have yet to catch one, but I don't have any traps out right now.
