Anybody know which North Carolina counties allow snares for taking furbearers other than beaver? Can you trap on Sutton Lake Gamelands?
Thanks.

You cannot set snares in New Hanover except for beaver. Trapping on Sutton Lake is grey area. The law in New Hanover states that you cannot set a trap on "another's land." Interpret it as you wish, its on my list of things to ask the game warden. I was gonna trap it last year and never got around to it. Some educated beavers got in my way. It'll be tough as you'll have to walk 90% percent of it. I don't know about the beaver population, if you have a boat that'll be easier than land trapping. Hope this helps.

My daughter moved to Wilmington and I though I might set a couple of steel traps when I visit. I won't do that without speaking to a game warden. Might have to buy a couple of those plastic jawed traps from Canada or I can use snares for beaver.
I'd like to see the Belisle foot snare legalized in North Carolina. There are enough Canadian studies to support it's use.

I wouldn't bother getting rubber jaws for Sutton Lake. You're not allowed to sell anything caught on gamelands live. There are some coyotes on Sutton Lake gameland, so bring some 1.75, 2, or 3's with you. You'd probably be better off taking your bow. Its a bow only area and there's only about about a 1/2 dozen people that actually hunt it. There's been some nice deer killed in there.

Probably not worth the hassle. Thanks. Haven't bow hunted since I was a kid. I'd rather trap than hunt.
