I've met a few yankees that were born in the south. It's not limited to any particular geographic area.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, moved to Maine (the deep south of the north) and lived there for 5 years. Moved down here July before last and don't see myself going back! Although I do miss nice black soil to work in, I guess I can get by the clay.
