hey y'all
I am thinking of getting some 1.5 size traps for taking coon, opossum and muskrats.
My question is offset or closed?
I see in the regs it allows either for that jawspread.
Should I be concerned about coon pullouts with the offset?
Thanks !

Hey Snare, 1.5 closed double jaws are what I use to prevent a chew out. Because coons are BAD to chew their foot off. As you will loose less coon. David

Closed jaw traps would be my recommendation. An idea is to run the trap on a slide wire to deep water for rats and coons. If you are setting pockets and/ or pinch points for these species - you may pick up a mink or otter as well.

I don't like off-sets if I have a chance of getting coons. Their front leg is not very thick and I've had more than one coon pull out of an off-set fox or coyote trap. A regular 1.5 coilspring is great, if you're buying new traps just for coons go with the double jaws.
