Had an exciting/upsetting evening. My horses spooked in their pasture and when I went to check why, I found my goose with a bite to the back of his head. Alive, but in shock. I think the horses spooked the predator when the predator scared them. So I grabbed my goose up in my arms and carried him to the barn. I asked my husband to get his rifle because throughout this whole thing, there was a bobcat staring me down. Husband didn't see it until it bounded into the woods. I'm in Cumberland county, is there anything I can do to dispatch this bobcat? Is there anyone that can assist me? I love my animals and this is aggravating, I have NEVER seen a bobcat before, but lo and behold in my own backyard. I appreciate all the help. I'm not sure of bobcat/trapping specific laws, I do know that I am permitted to dispatch a predator caught in the act of taking livestock. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure trapping season opens on Nov. 1 in Cumberland. Here's an opportunity for somebody. In order to trap him before that you'll have to contact either and ADC agent or the NCWRC to obtain a depredation permit. Between 11/1 and 3/1 you can just trap him. Anybody in Cumberland that can help goosekeeper?

The biggest problem we have with this situation is that in Cumberland County you cannot set a leg hold trap on another persons land. The exception is that you can for beaver and muskrat.Local law again.
The land owner can shoot said animal.Other parties cannot.Others can if the season is open for hunting and have proper license's.The other thing is depending on location in the county there might be an ordinace againset discharge of a fire arm.
I;m going to do so checking today with the local WRC CO.And see if we can find a viable solution to the problem.
Goosekeeper hang tight i will see what i can get accomplished. For the time being you might want to pen the birds up or keep close to an enclosure.Get me your contact information in case WRC or myself needs to get up with you .
