A snare is the only acceptable beaver trap that can be legally used on land and in water in N.C. In the water its hard to beat a 330 bodygrip (Conibear, Duke, BMI, etc...).

Depends on how you are trapping. 220's will work wonders on beaver and 11# , and 2# size traps do well for high land trails. Catch them going to a bean field and you can nail them with a 2. Body traps 220 and bigger in the water.

You better have a strong 220 to use on a beaver, if you can get him into it. I would not recommend a 220 to target any beaver. A big 40 or 50 pounder would probably just go over top of it.

the 60 pounders I have nailed couldn't have gotten into a 220. I use 330's, #4 or #5 DLS, CDR's, #5 Bridger 4 coils and snares all in water, nothing on land

Best trap:
In my opinion, the 330 Conibear is the best trap. It is strictly a water trap by law. I can make a variety of sets with this trap. and if completely submerged law requires check every 72 hours. If set half in water it must be checked every 24 hours. Heres a hint.....submerge your coni's and check every two days, you'll cover more territory.
