found a beaver dam its were a big v ditch goes under one of our roads. they have filled the end of the pipe i followed the ditch a log way can not find any more sighn of themany were got one at the dam. all the rain had the dam under by 1 1/2 water this morning .the ditch has 3ft high banks dont have any idea were to set but on the dam any sugestions would be appr ?

there have got to be exit trails coming out of the ditch somewhere.. they've got to eat.. so there is a feed pile somewhere too.

found afew places today were they were coming up on the bank.had a otter in the trap i set at the dam. will a 220 work for beaver or otter? only have the one 330 but i have a few 220 will get more for next season. man i love this trapping this is very addictive just what i need more bad habits lol

220 is not a beaver trap. It will take otter pretty reliably, though.

FYI- Although the 220 is maybe not the recommended beaver trap it does meet BMP criteria....
However, I too strongly encourage the use of 330s for beaver trapping in North Carolina because of the # of 50+ lb beaver, to encourage the quickest dispatch possible.
Come pick up some 330s at the SE Regional in Williamston, NC May 1-3 there should be vendors there looking to unload a few.

Depending on water fluctuation in the area and scheduled precipitation events for the next few days, you may be better off letting the water go down before setting- otherwise your sets could be high and dry or you run the chance of getting wetter than a fish, yourself.
If you are adamant on setting steel. Check traps daily because of changes to water level.

A 330 is best for beaver. Wait till you catch 1 or 2 beaver and then bust the dam.
