While in Maryland a week or so back, I met up with a trapper from trapper man... he's a youngin who started last year same as I did. We ran a 1/2 dozen set line up the neighboring farm. He said he' never really targeted fox and gotten a few as bi product. He mainly hunted them with a call.
Well using some of the special sauce donated to me(thanks Rod); we made the sets and sat back and waited.
It was a good learning experience for us both as I got to see what it was like to work with terrain changes and elevation differences, as well as soil content and just different environment than what I am used to all together. Tested out that sauce, and was able to show Cody a few new types of sets that Fester taught me and a few others I learned from Tman or via conversations on here.
We set three dirt holes, a mouse hole at the end of a big log( 8in diameter, cut flat on the end) that was laying in the middle of an old logging road, a Flat set at an intersection(near the mouse hole set) and a hay bale set on the side of a field near a road coming into the field. He ran the checks after we made the sets and ended up with a flipped trap on the mouse hole the first night and a hit on one of the dirt holes that contained a bait I'd made this year.
Later checks turned up a double at the mouse hole and flat set and a flipped trap on the hay bale. I was pretty pleased as the dirt hole and the mouse hole both had a bait that I'd made in them and the mouse hole actually got two hits in three days resulting in a catch, the dirt hole had a catch too but that was released.
Looks like we both learned some good sets and application.
Can wait to set to work here in a few weeks.
