To trap on gamelands you have to buy a GL license even if youy have a sportsmans lic. Hunting is covered but trapping isn't. Trapping on GL would depend on the specific one. Some are high use and some are not. If I had one close by I would give it a try. Be carefull about some of them being archery only and possessing weapons on Sunday. One good thing is not having to mess with getting permission.

I guess we could go back an forth on this subject. I asked the CO here an he said I would be covered if I had a "lifetime Sportsman" an a state trapping to trap on GL. Ill go with his answer.
BUT sometime before ill call the commission to be sure...lol

If I understand the regs correctly, you can trap on archery only. As far as the firearms go don't think anyone will give you any hassel about a 22.
nccowboy, be careful as we all know there is more than 1 way to interpret the law.

yup.. thats why I said id call the commission if im in doubt. But I still dont think you need to have a gl permitt for hunting an trapping, I think they are one in the same.

A game lands permit is a game lands permit. I'll double check as well, but I'm pretty sure the same one goes for hunting, fishing, trapping, and any other "legal" outdoor activities.

LDsoldier you are correct. NCWRC has a Gamelands use permit and it is good for any hunting, trapping, and fishing activity during those seasons. That gets you on then you will need to be licensed for the activity you are doing, hunting, trapping, etc.

There are several types of lifetime licenses. The sportsman has the GL use permit included. Whether you get a life time or annual the sportsman covers GL.

I just called the wildlife commission an talked to Stephine, she said a GL permit will allow you to hunt, fish or trap on GL`s with the apporaite license. There is only ONE GL permit.

Kind of tough to trap 3 days a week isn't it? Pretty much run 330's submerged and that'd be it.

On state owned land that is 3 days a week and trapping is allowed, you can trap 7 days a week. Ask an older officer or call the Raleigh Office 919-707-0030. 3 days a week is for hunting and trapping is not considered hunting.

Its always been my understanding that hunting and trapping were considered seperate activities (e.g. you can trap and fish on Sunday, but not hunt), and therefore was not limited by the 3 day week. I will follow up as well, since we have a massive 3 day week gamelands here that I trap. More to follow....

Just pulled this off the website. I'm gonna make a couple of phone calls this week:
Three-day-per-week areas: Game lands on which any game may be hunted unless otherwise noted. Open days are Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Martin Luther King Jr. days. These areas are closed to hunting on other days of the week, unless specifically opened under the individual game lands listings. (emphasis added)
