The magnums are considered "full closure" bodygrips. The jaws are bent so that they close all the way, where a standard will leave a small gap. I believe the bend is called a "Canadian bend."

ld did you forget the safety clips when you were setting. Our problem is that the steel freezes and the dog/triggers freeze, but go off p d q when you are moving the traps. you don't have freezing temps to create that problem down there. Very often in the auction I see white line damage on thin skinned beaver and attribute this to magnums closing too hard. I believe they are graded down a notch when this happens. Beaverstops answer is to the point................NO

One time was an honest mistake (I was in a hurry remaking a set and it was getting dark), and the other was an act of carelessness on my part (failure to double-check the safeties before I fired the trap, luckily only one safety slipped). Lessons learned, always know exactly where your hands are, especially in the water, triple check those safeties, and don't trust those "friction lock" safeties any more than a regular hook type.
And no, you don't need the magnums. I feel prey to marketing the first year I trapped.

It isn't that important, but they do kill the animal faster. Which means less time spent re setting up the set. Mainly for beavers and otters. If you get some I would suggest belisles. The spring hooks are the best and very safe. They cost the same as victors.

Yes the safety looks are very nice on the Belisles, even if the trap goes off they lock and hold, not like victors. Check the prices there is going to be some movement(up) due to the movement of the two dollars fluxuations and steel and shipping surtaxes. Check out some of the posted prices say Furharvesters@ North Bay or Ram Connection go to the Canadian sites and Us sites. We have being paying 20-30 doz more but they are going to match soon.
