I'm in eastern NC, and this past year was my first year trapping here. I didn't start until a week or so into January. All the coon were prime and not badly rubbed. Is December too early here for coon and cats? What's the earliest you would start and expect good fur?

Our season will come in Dec. 1st and that is about right for coons. Some small ones and females may not be ready though. However, its still early for our cats. They naturally prime late, I would wait till deer season goes out, which is Jan.1. I caught 3 big ,healthy adult cats the 1st week of Dec. in Harnett co. last year and were not fully prime. Where you at? We are having an eastern fish fry on July 12, you may want to come.
