The reds are technically a non-native species to this area, although some will argue they've been here long enough to gain native status. I personally don't have an opinion on that. But coyotes do prey on fox. They compete for the same food and resources, and the fox populations have suffered since the fox hunters first introduced coyotes here. To what impact is debatable, however.

Guys, I know you mean well but maybe this isnt the best time and place to discuss some things. This is an open forum. We dont need to antagonize the NCWRC or the hound hunters. As stated in an earlier post during the season, Jimmy is working on things with the fox hunters. I really believe the NCWRC is doing what it can for us right now. We're all in this together and I'm sure we would all like to see an end to the problems of the old days. With patience and by following the lead of our very capable president and officers I believe me might just get there. We've made some gains and it looks like more this time. Some states are not so fortunate. It may be that this is something of a critical time for us and who can predict what the future holds. The truth is I think that we are part of the smaller number, the dedicated trappers and outdoorsmen who care and want to keep our traditions.
