You need a Depreadation Permit to trap out of season. Your local game warden can write it for you unless you know of an Damage Control Agent near you.

Yes they are pretty good. You will need a trapping liscense if you are doing the trapping, and will need to prove the coyotes have caused at least $50 in damage, and he will write it for a period of time. Landowner will also need to sign, and give you pemission.

If you don't have the experience trapping coyotes, I would refer the job to someone that does. I trap coyotes, but I won't do coyote ADC work because I don't have enough experience. I do okay on beaver and muskrats, but yotes still give me a hard time.

Actually, the permit is issued to the landowner as he is the person suffering the loss. A second person can be designated on the permit as the one doing the control work. The landowner receives the original of the permit. Anyone doing the control work will need that permit or a copy to show if questioned by the officer.
Calf depredation on that scale by coyotes is very unusual, particularly if the calves are up and moving about. Can't say without seeing it, but dogs have been a real problem in some areas during calving time around here. If it can be documented that it is in fact coyote depredation, I would be very interested in follow up info for something that the NCTA is working on.
