with the growing population of yotes in our areas, I have been doing alot of thinking about selection of traps. I have been using 1.5's, which we all know a yote will do a number on. It is a good all around trap for other critters though. With the possibility of catching more yotes would it be better to go with a bigger trap even in the fox sets? Just something that has been in the back of my mind since all the demos and stuff at the spring fling.

What brand of 1.5's are you using? The Duke seems to be a pretty tough trap to me.

I personally think that would be a good choice. Like I said the Duke trap seems to be a tough and a hard trap to pull out of. Contact Lost your noodle on this website for prices.

I am not aware of anybody who makes a 1.75 padded jaw trap at this time. One trap for everything is difficult to do. A 1.75 offset that is fully modified will do the job. I held a monster Rotty by two toes in one, so it will hold whatever gets its foot in it. Wouldn't have bothered me for that one to get out, LOL.
I use use Victors in the 1.75 size. They work for some, but I do not use Dukes for anything larger than gray fox. I plan on having mine laminated and base plated before using them on land again. The jaws are too thin and I am not a fan of side swiveled traps. Coyotes are very hard on small traps.

I held a dog with 1.75 offsets this year but I also had two pull out. I don't know for sure if it was yote or stray dogs,,, either way I had two pull outs on them. Might want to go up a bit if you are setting for them specfically.. but take it for what it's worth.. I'm still figuring this game out too
