OK guys I have a buyer for my cat, he wants him to mount. I feel like I am getting a good price for it, got my cites tag. Here's the question though, what is the best way to attach the tag to the cat and not mess up anything for the taxidermist? I see that most folks have tagged in eye opening when they are skinned, but mine is not. Could someone help me out with this. This is my first cat and first sell like this.

Is the cat frozen? If so, it might be tough. The last frozen otter I did I took a small phillips head screwdriver, and CAREFULLY went up behind the upperlip and up and out the eye socket. This is obviously easier if it isn't frozen yet. Just be careful not to damage the lip of eyelids.

Is it legal to place it in the box with the critter when shipping rather than physically attaching?

I am not going to ship it, it will be a hand delivered. So I just aint real sure about how to do this. The critter is frozen, which is going to be a challenge.

Law says that it has to be tagged ten days after the close of the season or when it changes hands. An exception is delivery to the taxi for mounting if you are keeping it. Ask the taxi what method would be less damaging and attach it that way. Putting the tag in a shipping container without physically attaching it is not legal.
