it looks like there is some natural contour to the ground right there... only a few inches of change but enough to make a small lump.. am I seeing that right?

Yes rye, there is a hump I try to find something like that to keep him on the front side of the set. The little dirt clods are to make him step over them and on the pan . Notice I have one between the trap and the hole also. I back the trap up away from the hole more for coyotes. For fox, I put the trap tight against the lip.

Thanks for those pics, I know we got some yotes around, but I have not really tried them yet. So far I have been making the traditional stack wood type dirt hole sets. I am going to try that in a couple of sets the last part of the season just to see what happens.

No problem. If you look just to the right of the hole, you can see a feather. Also put a couple down the hole......not too many though.
