For those that use Pogos for anchoring drowners in swamp mud, what size washers do you use?

I don't use pogos but I do trap in the swamp and I'd say to use as big a washer as you can find, say 2-21/2 inches. I use berkshires soft ground disposable stakes and 4 ft. of 3/32" aircraft cable. I made my own driver out of 1/2" conduit and I try to push it all the way in. I have been doing it like this for 4 years and have never had one pulled. I have even held otters this way , though the cable had to be changed. Hope this helps, Tony

Tony
Been meaning to ask you why you use such long cable on those disposables ?
I assume that just becasue you have 4 ft you are not putting but 20 or 24 inches in the ground. Is that right ?
Every soft ground disposable I have ever put in the swamp had never been removed.

Cannonball, my driver is 6 ft. long(thats fact, not bragging,LOL) and I try my best to put it all the way in. The mud where I trap is bottomless in places. I get most of my anchors out, but if you push down through some roots, its there to stay. I use split rings to connect my cable to my trap so I can just disconnect the trap and leave the cable. I buy my cable in 500 ft. rolls and my stakes by the 100 bag so I can have plenty of extra stakes on hand. Like I said before, I have never had an animal pull one of these stakes and that includes otters. Tony

I know that is miserable working in that kind of muck.

You got that right. But that keeps alot of folks from setting these places. Tony
