A friend of mine was having coyote problems and asked me to help. While scouting I came up on a oak tree on a ridge with some scat all over the roots at the bottom of the tree and about a four foot circle around the tree. I've never seen the volume around a tree like that. It looked about the size of coon maybe a little larger. Any ideal what it would be. It was a toilet for some animal. I'm just not sure what kind up on the side of a ridge.

Big coon, sounds like to me. Maybe I missed it, but is there any in the tree?

It didn't really look like coon but maybe it was. Just wondering if coyote would have a dedicated area like that. (Didn't see any in the tree)

Looks like you might have called it right, Wildman. Trail cam caught a couple coons running around there.

Even a blind hog finds an acorn sometimes:-) I climbed a swamp gum once that was split and healed over because it had scat around the roots. Nice flat surface in the center of the branches, perfect for a natural deer stand, and I wanted to put a coon set in the saddle. Imagine my surprise when I went to pull myself up into the saddle (without looking) and grabbed a big, smelly handful of raccoon byproduct. Never saw any poo in the tree, just around the edges. And on my sleeves. And on my jacket front. And even, somehow, on my hat. Missus was not amused.

Sounds like a heck of a cover scent but I believe I'll pass. Just use urine on my boots.
