In our great state of NC in order to do wildlife control you have to go to school put on by the NCWRC and pass the 2 day school. All wildlife must be causing $50 worth of damage in order to do control work for a person or persons. But it seems the NCWRC gives out blanket depredation permits to any municipality that calls in and requests it, but in order for them to remove wildlife it must be causing damage also. We as ADC agents must fill out quarterly reports and municapalities just do yearly. My neighbor had a really bad feral cat problem and she called the spca so they would bring traps and could catch them and take them to the shelter. The spca came down and brought her 1 cage trap on a thursday and told her that she could not set the trap till the following wednsday night as they only make their rounds once a week here. that night came and i got home from fishing and she asked if she could borrow a couple more cage traps and i loaned her 2 more so she could catch a few more to reduce numbers of cats around her property. Next morning she called me one of my traps had a cat and the spca had a oppossum. I told her that when they would came they would release the oppossum and take the cat, as by chance i was home that day and when they showed up they removed the cat and then loaded up the oppossum. The oppossum was causing no damage on the property what so ever.
When i confronted the spca person she said the oppossum was causing damage and digging under the house. i asked for the depradation permit on this case she said she was covered by the spca and did not have to have it. I called the game commission and they said they would look into it (doubt it) and then complained to the county and they said they would look into it also(doubt it). I also called the SPCA director for this area and he basically told me to mind my business and they would mind theirs!
Heres some pics!
if i had done this my license would have been revoked and hefty fines would have been placed on me!I know the NCTA is not concerned about ADC work but it needs to be known what is going on allover the place in NC!
