Are you on the Board, or been invited by a board member?

Everybody,
We had a very productive meeting yesterday. Some of the topics discussed were:
2006 Convention: We are finalizing the vendors and demos for publication in August. All licensed trappers will receive a mailing.
T-Shirts: We will immediatly order t-shirts in sufficient quantity to have them on hand for the BUCKMASTERS show. We hope to have some for the Northeast NTA Regional. We are also looking at what is available in hats.
Raccoon Proposal: The raccoon proposal submitted to the NCWRC by the NCTA for consideration is in the process for inclusion on the public hearings agenda. Its not there yet, but it looks better. If it is scheduled, be prepared to step up and show your support.
Other Regulations: We are requesting that the requirement for fox tagging be eliminated. Please understand that some things that we have in the process are in preliminary stages. Quite often, it is not prudent to publicize them as other groups will have advance knowledge of what we are doing. We are not trying to keep you in the dark, it just has to be this way sometimes. See me at the convention and perhaps I will be able to talk with you individually about some of them.
Off Season Trapper Get Togethers: We discussed and approved having off season fun gatherings for trappers. One of our members has just such an event in the planning stages. I intend to contact him to offer the support and sponsorship of the NCTA. This is a western area function. We want one in the east also. These events will probably be in March, so there is still lots of planning time. Anyone have a suggestion for an eastern site?
Improved Communication: We discused improving communication with the membership. Besides the forum, we can reach our membership through the newsletter. We are working to revive "The Trapline" as an information source for members.
NTA National: The NCTA will send our NTA representative, Tim Wilson, to the Nationals in August. Tim will attend the two days of meetings to provide input from our association and to vote on NTA matters. In the event that Tim is unable to attend, the alternate, Claudie Taylor, will represent us.
Perry Sumner and I reported on the Southeastern Furbearer Managers Conference that was held at the 4-H Center outside Columbia last month. Biologists and managers from eleven states met for three days to discuss problems and projects unique to the southern area. Some of the highlites were the Nutria infestation that is affecting coastal marshes, the Red Wolf restoration project in N.C. and the issue of live trapping canines for the pens.
Aside from these items, we conducted the usual business associated with keeping the organization moving.
Please contact me with any comments and suggestions.
Jimmy
