Pull traps until this cold spell is over?
I pulled everything yesterday as this weather (11-12 degrees at night) that is forecast for the next few days effectively puts the live market trapper out of business. You almost have to be standing there when he is caught to prevent frozen feet, especially when using padded jaw traps.
I use the Fox Hollow Finned Super Stake and attach the chain with quick links available from Paul Dobbins. It is a simple task to unscrew them and leave the anchors in the ground for later use.

I pulled a bunch of my sets thsi morning as they've been running for almost a week now. I'll move them this afternoon or tomorrow. I know it's going to be cold, but I'm not setup for the live yet.

I'm actually going to add some sets this afternoon if I get the chance. Like Rye, I'm not setup for live market.
I can't get the dang things to sit quietly in the backseat of the Acura.....

I'm actually off a few days and gonna put out a canine line. Will be checking traps every 4 hours a couple nights to try to prevent freezing of the foot. Wish the weather won't gonna be so brutal, but that's what I have to work with. If all else fails, I'll skin'em.

I don't expect to set the world on fire during this cold spell but " it is what it is ". Better than staying in the house with the wife and working her mile long and getting longer by the minute " honey do list ".
On top of that I run a water line at all times. I was telling Rodney earlier this week that I am just like a kid. If I am outside I have to be playing in the water.

Seems like they were moving last night. I only had a few sets out. I put one set in on Tuesday behind a buddy of mine's taxidermy shop. He's been seeing coyotes, and some neighborhood cats have gone missing. He's never trapped but was interested, so I made a set, and kind of showed him the basics.....
Last night he called at 7:45 and there was a reall nice big male gray fox in there. I had to run down there and release him.
I think he is hooked now. It got me access to his 450 acre lease to trap the rest of the season too....

Sweet deal John!
They moved some last night for sure... out of 20 sets, I had a pull out, several visits but missed, a grinner, a non target, and a fox. I'm shooting for 20 total Grey's before I am done this weekend. Just 2 to go and they'll probably be the hardest in the freezing ground.

I aint done much at all, just started school back this week and finished up on a dead area. I am going to set pretty heavy this weekend starting this evening and run them all week. I too skin only, it takes alot of effort to run that live market.

I pulled everything and hope to get them back out next week. Riding a 4 wheeler at 5 am in this weather is not much fun.

Live markerting is good, but there is something about putting up fur that I like. When it gets cold the boards come out. I just like looking at the critters hanging in the barn.

Still none out. Calling for maybe 3"-6" snow tonight and tomorrow. Supposed to be dangerous driving conditions in the morning due to ice on roads. 25+ years of having to work these winter storms made me very cautious about getting on the roads among the crazy people.
If there is a good side to this, I have 9 dozen coyote traps ready when things break. Had plenty of time to dye, wax, change some springs and tune everything.
Bad side-my wife retired Jan. 1. I have got to get out!
