Be sure not to use your trap gloves for handling bait or lure. Buy new gloves that are clean and try that. Your sifter may be contaminated as well. I would boil everything. Bait and lure have to be kept seperate from clean traps at all times.

One has to remember that peat moss is all CARBON, that is dry so it picks up and absorbs all the odors around it when left somewhere. Add a little water and those odors disapate. Best test is to pour some boiling hot water over a cup full, and fan the odor/ steam over your nose, that will tell you what odors are absorbed from sitting around.
