No way am I posting as an expert trapper, and what traps to use, but a 1 3/4 CS for alot of dry land work or #2-#3 dbls for alot of water work. Even use ALOT of #11 dbls for otter on a drowner with little trouble if they get in it - problem is the target area - but id they get in it they are there to stay! Just be sure they are tuned up good.
Got some MB550s on the way be here monday - for me I hope they to turn out as an alroound get em trap from otter to cat.

In trapping a lot of times you don't need to buy the most expensive trap available to be effective. I have never used a Belisle beaver trap but I have removed many a beaver using Bridger, BMI, and Duke traps.
I use only a couple types of foothold traps: #11, 1.75, and #2 long springs and all are Sleepy Creek. Never had a problem with 'em - good strong traps.
I do use some 1.5 Dukes as well but did have some issues with the ears on the jaws with one batch busting.
My $.02, take it for what it is worth but if you want purchase some supplies. A local boy is John Deaton a.k.a "Lost Your Noodle", he can bout get you whatever you need.
